These exciting adventures are all designed to enrich your experience with hands-on opportunities to explore the culture and surroundings of North Carolina and America. Our excursions are filled with a myriad of types of activities in our attempt to captivate your interest and give you the most authentic experience possible. Each day also includes free time with friends to explore your own interests and hobbies. Dates and cost of our upcoming activities are posted on our Online calendar, Facebook and Meetup Page.
English in the Kitchen
English in the Kitchen uses cooking as a tool to teach English. The classes are intended for those learning English as a second language. Daily and/or weekly classes, conversation partners, and simple challenges encourage our students to practice what they learn in class. We explore a new recipe focused on a particular food genre or region in the USA. Because there is so much culture wrapped up in food, we are able to teach more than just vocabulary. We have a plethora of recipes and food themes to choose from.
Cocinando en Espanol
Cocinando en espanol uses cooking as a tool to teach Spanish. The class is intended for those learning Spanish. Recipes in Spanish, conversation partner, and simple challenges encourage students to practice what they learn in class. Spanish Level: Intermediate – Advanced.
Snow Skiing (Wintergreen, VA)
Wintergreen Resort is an 11,000-acre, four-season resort located in the Blue Ridge Mountains southwest of Charlottesville, Va. The area offers skiing, snowboarding and tubing, as well as championship golf once the snow melts. Ski slopes range from the double black Cliffhanger to Diamond Hill, for beginners. There is an onsite spa and excellent restaurants.
Wrightsville Beach (Wilmington, NC)
Wrightsville Beach is the true definition of an easy vacation or getaway. As North Carolina’s most accessible beach from Interstate I-40, it’s easy to get here and even easier to stay. A clean, breathtaking stretch of white sand and sparkling water along the beach and Intracoastal Waterway just begs for water sports activities, swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, and surfing. Leave the passport at home this summer and enjoy the nearby island life at Wrightsville Beach.
North Carolina Zoo (Asheboro, NC)
Situated on over 500 acres, this zoo is the largest and finest walkthrough, natural habitat zoo in the country and features African and North American continental regions that closely resemble the natural habitats of the exotic animals who live here. Animals you may see during your visit to this zoo include zebras, alligators, rhinoceros, elephants, polar bears, and seals.
Camping (Winston Salem, NC)
Winston Salem is at the heart of the Piedmont region of North Carolina and ideal for a great outdoors camping experience. This trip is great for people who love to hike fish and play outdoors. We also take a short visit to Old Salem, small town that depicts colonial America.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. They are members of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. (Fall/Winter)
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are a professional American football team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are currently members of the South Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League. (Fall/Winter)
Durham Bulls
The Durham Bulls is a Triple-A minor league baseball team that currently plays in the International League. The Bulls play their home games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park located in the downtown area of Durham, North Carolina. (Summer)
Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association. (Winter/Spring)
Kings Dominion (Doswell, VA)
Re-live your childhood with fun activities at this theme park, spread over 400 acres. Take your pick from zany rides, stage shows, prancing with your favorite cartoon characters or simply splashing in the water. Other attractions include fireworks, gospel conventions, live concerts and motorcycle events.
Bush Gardens (Williamsburg, VA)
This amusement park, divided into European-themed sections, has been voted Most Beautiful Theme Park in the World multiple times but it’s much more than that; it’s a veritable cultural and thrill-seeking Mecca. If you’re brave enough, hop on the Alpengeist, which reaches heights of 195 feet and hair-raising speeds of 67 miles per hour. Aside from rides, there are cultural experiences – view virtual Europe from the air shopping and a whole host of family friendly restaurants.
Carowinds (Charlotte, NC)
There’s no way you can get bored at the 105 acre Carowinds, whatever age group you belong to. This amusement park has it all, from 60 rides like Nickelodeon Central and Vortex, to events and live shows. Also part of the Carowinds is the Boomerang Bay Water park Resort and the famous “carowinds” event. Accommodation too is not a problem, as you and your family can just camp out in the fully equipped 25 acre Camp Wilderness Resort. Spend a day of absolute fun, frolic, thrills and maybe even some chills!
Wet & Wild Water Park (Greensboro, NC)
“America’s most exhilarating water park,” this is the largest water park in the Carolinas with over 35 rides and attractions on site including drop slides, enclosed slides, tube rides, two children’s areas, and a drifting lazy river.
Raleigh Tour
Historic Tours of Raleigh provides guides for walking tours and step-on guides for buses in Raleigh and beyond. Theme tours include: Civil War in Raleigh, Victorian homes, colleges and churches, love stories and scandals and more.
Food Tour
You can expect an interesting, informative, delicious and fun filled 3 hour guided walking food-tasting tour through downtown Raleigh. Two very different tours are offered, depending upon your interests and time schedule. Saturday afternoon’s walking food tour features Raleigh’s Global Gastronomy and The Comfort Food.
Picnic in the Park
Fred G. Bond Metro Park, at 310 acres, is one of the largest municipal parks in Wake County. Like an oasis in the midst of the city, the park design preserves the environment and offers opportunities for many types of recreation. All facilities are integrated into the natural setting. Visitors may enjoy picnics, play ball on the athletic fields, see a performance in the amphitheater or walk along the trails.
Durham Tour
Downtown Durham, North Carolina’s first commercial district on the National Register of Historic Places is the historic and geographic soul of a compact and vibrant metro area filled with exciting dining and activities with a tour of Duke Britannica gardens.
Our Nations Capitol (Washington DC)
Student will enjoy a tour of Washington, D.C. Learn about the history of our country’s founders and the role of present-day policymakers with visits to various sites in our nation’s capital. A perfect tour for students interested in history and government.
Colonial America (Williamsburg, VA)
Get a look at what life used to be like when you visit Historic Jamestown, the site of the first permanent settlement in America, and Colonial Williamsburg, home to nearly 100 original 18th-century buildings. Your tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Bush Gardens Theme park.
Birth of a Nation (Philadelphia, PA)
Experience American history in Philadelphia, the city where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were created. We’ll visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. This trip is great for students interested in history!
The Old South (Charleston, SC & Savanah, GA)
Charleston and Savannah are two of the most popular southern destinations in the country. The districts of the city contain a wide variety of interesting locations and historical landmarks. While in the south you can expect to find a rich combination of hospitality and charm resonant of the “Old South.”
The New South (Atlanta, GA)
Home to the huge Confederacy munitions industry, it was burned by Sherman’s Union army in 1864, an act immortalized in Gone with the Wind. Must-see attractions include the various sites associated with Dr King to cultural institutions like the High Museum of Art.
The Blue Ridge Mountains (Asheville, NC)
A truly eclectic, comfy, and beautiful mountain city, Asheville is so inviting, you’ll want to make it your hometown! For those who love the outdoors, this area beckons your soul to explore Mother Nature and all her beauty.
The Outer Banks (Kitty Hawk, NC)
The outer bank is home to the “Lost Colony” the first baby born in America. Here we’ll visit where the Wright brothers flew the very first airplane and witness the tallest light house in America, Cape Hatteras. And let us not forget to spend some time at the beach.
The Big Apple (New York City, NY)
The place you want to be is New York City, a city rich with culture, eclectic neighborhoods, and ethnically diverse communities. We’ll visit famous and historic places like Broadway, Times Square, The Empire State Building, UN, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and much more. << Learn More >>
The Boston Tea Party (Boston, MA)
Boston is rich in colonial history, period architecture and colorful immigrant neighborhoods that yearn to be explored. American Revolution: traverse the artificial waterway that connects Cape Cod to mainland Massachusetts and view the Kennedy mansion, explore quaint Provincetown, and watch the sunset over Boston Harbor.
San Francisco Treat (San Francisco, CA)
Indulge yourself in San Francisco, a sublime city that delights all the senses. Between the hip art scene, charming boutiques, sweeping bay views and locally focused restaurants and wine bars, it is a destination that thrills those in search of The Good Life.
The Windy City (Chicago, IL)
As the hub of the Midwest, Chicago is easy to find — its picturesque skyline calls across the waters of Lake Michigan, a first impression that soon reveals world-class museums of art and science, miles of sandy beaches, huge parks and public art, and perhaps the finest downtown collection of modern architecture in the world.
The Big Easy (New Orleans, LA)
New Orleans is truly a city of contrasts. You will feel its rich European heritage as well as the distinct flavor of the Old South. Wander through the antique shops in the French Quarter, and then marvel at some of the tallest buildings in the New South. Drive by the elegant mansions of the Garden District, or tour the Superdome, the largest “people place” in the history of mankind. Whether you are crossing the winding Mississippi or dining on French cuisine you will agree that New Orleans has earned its reputation as America’s most interesting city.
